The Chipstead Players is a drama society which operates from a lovingly converted stable block, The Courtyard Theatre, situated in grounds just off a country lane in the beautiful village of Chipstead in Surrey.
The Players have been presenting shows in Chipstead for over 90 years. The purchase of the freehold of the Longshaw stable block in the late 1970s was a major turning point in the fortunes of the Chipstead Players. Scenery and costumes were already being stored on the site and securing a longer lease had allowed a bar and rehearsal rooms to be developed. But with the freehold and after much fund-raising and voluntary labour, the Courtyard Theatre was finally opened in March 1995 with a production of ‘Tom Jones’. Since then much more has been added: dressing room facilities, a delightful Stable Bar, a fully equipped workshop and up-to-the-minute computerised sound and lighting equipment.
Nowadays, the sleepy setting of the site belies the vibrant, busy atmosphere and creative energy inside. So come and sample the quality of our productions and maybe join us in making it all happen!
New visitors are frequently amazed at the wealth of talent, expertise and resources inside this fully equipped 96-seat theatre and bar, with its thriving membership spanning all ages. There are currently over 300 Full Members, including some 100 Youth Theatre Members (aged 7 to 18).
The Players present some 7 productions each season covering the full range of drama, comedy, musical theatre and pantomime. We have an excellent reputation for the quality of our productions and with a loyal group of Supporters (non-acting members) we regularly play to full houses.
