NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME...
A full programme of shows each year means that we always welcome new talent and helping hands. We’re proud of our actors and applaud them to the rafters at every performance. But there’s more to the Chipstead Players than just acting!

Here are some of the other ways in which you can become involved:

Set design Design our magnificent sets.
Setbuilding Help construct our sets, using our range of power tools.
Lighting Set up stage lighting and operate our amazing computerised lighting board.
Sound Choose or create sound effects and music, or operate the computer-based control board.
Costumes Design and create costumes, head-dresses and the like, and add to and look after our incredible wardrobe.
Props Find or make props and dress the sets.
Front of House Get involved whenever there's a show on: be in charge of the site, sell drinks, programmes and ice creams, or run the cloakroom.
Box Office Run the Box Office at the theatre: it’s open at every performance, and 10:00-12:00 every Saturday throughout the year.
Maintenance Help to keep our building in tip-top order – a whole range of skills is required.

If you are interested in any of these activities, then Chipstead Players has something to offer. We own and operate our own 98 seat theatre (a converted stable block, now The Courtyard Theatre) which has enormous advantages: we rehearse on stage, build sets next to it, test sound or lighting, and socialise in one of our two bars!

We are lucky enough to have excellent onstage, backstage, and front of house facilities and a committed and friendly band of workers who would be delighted to welcome you in any capacity. If you’ve never worked in theatre before – no problem! There are plenty of people to show you the ropes – all you need is enthusiasm! We always need more people to help, and, as you can tell, there’s far more to being a member than standing on a stage!

Chipstead Players produce 6 or 7 plays each year, including at least 1 Junior production and a Christmas play or pantomime. We welcome Junior Members from age 7 to 18, and adult members of any age. Currently we are actively seeking members with an acting age of 25-35.

We usually rehearse 2 nights a week, and set building takes place on Sunday mornings – usually followed by a drink in the Members' Bar!

There are other benefits to joining us. A range of social activities is organised to appeal to members of all ages. Recent events have included a Barn Dance, Quiz Night, Christmas Variety Show and Dinner, and a Murder Mystery Play held in a local pub.

From time to time Workshops are organised on a variety of theatre topics – dance, drama, sound & lighting, movie making and Elizabethan dance are just a few recent examples.

JOINING THE CHIPSTEAD PLAYERS IS AN EXCELLENT WAY TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS AND GAIN NEW SKILLS

Alternatively, if you don’t want to actively participate but would like to support our work and receive advance notice of events and priority ticket applications, two weeks before the public, you can join us as a Supporter, for a reduced membership fee – see our Box Office page.
