CHRISTMAS STARS

The Chipstead Players Christmas Revue 2006

Following the success of a similar event in 2004, various members of the Chipstead Players dusted down their favourite party pieces and performed them in front of an appreciative audience of their peers on the 2nd December 2006.

Here's what one of the audience had to say about the evening:

I was not sure exactly what to expect at the Christmas Revue. Well, obviously, I had some idea but what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be.

Right from arriving in the foyer where someone (the social committee?) had taken the trouble to make it look Christmassy, I had the distinct feeling, correctly as it turned out, that this was going to be a very pleasant evening.

All of the acts were wonderful. Some, of course, appealed to me more than others, but everyone who took part did themselves proud. And it was both refreshing and, at times, surprising to see so many Junior members taking part and showing what great talent they have. Not just from the medley of songs and dance from Grease which clearly, for me, stole the show in terms of energy and enthusiasm. But right across the board from; Tom Milsom who compered, acted, wrote scripts and sang whilst accompanying himself on the ukulele; on to Kelly Burke who, at her tender age, took centre stage and sang a sweet solo beautifully. And please don’t think I’m singling out these people because they shone out from the others. No, they were good, but so were the rest.

There were adults there too. And none of them disgraced themselves either. They sang, they made us laugh, one entertained us with a flurry of hats and characters depicting Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and they sang some more. The last act typified the whole show when Jacquie Burke and Chris Evans gave a rendition of "Baby, It’s Cold Outside". They not only sang it together wonderfully well but clearly showed the work and professionalism that went into its preparation by performing it brilliantly with all their moves and props brought together to perfection.

And that is how I shall remember the evening, a perfect entertainment enveloped in the warmth and good humour of time spent in pleasant company in the bar both before, during, with a fine spread of "light refreshments", and after.

To all the organisers, may I just say thank you and I shall look out for the next occasion when I can say "Oh good, another social evening with The Players".
